Getting Ready – Or Not!

We are getting really excited (and a bit nervous!) Before our first trip we ended up packing the day we left. That was stressful and we promised ourselves we would plan ahead for the second trip. So here we are the day before we are to leave and we are both at work and have not packed!! We also have not yet figured out how to install a gate across the top of the stairs since our banister is metal. I think if necessary we could do that when we get home? The most important thing outstanding is the car seat. We MUST at least get that task done in order to get home from the airport.

I think if we can survive the first day in Kazakhstan we will be ok. We land at 6 am, go to the baby house some time in the morning, and then fly to Almaty. I really wish we had one day to reintroduce ourselves to Nikolai before we take him on a plane, but it is not to be. I hope we will at least have time to make a bottle for the flight. Do domestic flights in Kaz have the same liquid restrictions?

Better get packing :)
I don't remember them having liquid restrictions but they might. When you get on the plane ask a flight attendant to fill the bottle for you (either add the formula before or after), shake and serve at take off. I know you'll do great with the little guy!

Definitely bring powdered formula--that way if they don't let you bring on liquids for some reason you can make formula with water after you go through security. But usually they'll let you bring on some liquids in bottles if you have an actual baby with you ...

We had a metal banister like you guys do when Gray was a baby, and we used some of the gates in the One Step Ahead catalog. (They also have a website.) They have gates you can attach to the nearest wall and then wrap around--it makes more sense when you see them, I promise! I'll send you a link if you'd like ...

You're going to do great on the trip! And even if he's a little cranky, once you're home and he's settled, you'll forget all about it. =)

Love you both!

I know it has probably seemed like a really long time since you have seen & held your boy but it seems to me it was just a couple of weeks ago you were leaving for your first trip.

Thanks for letting me follow along. It has kept me up through all the waiting. I don't have much longer:)

Best wishes to you! Domestic flights allow you to take enough liquid for your child on the flight. In addition, great idea on taking dry formula. Be sure to take bottles with you on your flight to Kaz as the baby house doesn't like to give their's up.

Chris and Heather....we are so out of the loop in our little region in Kaz. I can't believe how far behind we are on blogs....let alone what's happening with you two...now three :)

Congratulations! We're in Kaz at the same time but at different points within our adoptions. We have court on Nov 4th and then our waiting period. We have a long way to go. I'll have to check your blog to see how Almaty goes for you.

I need to back track on your blog to see what region Nickoli came from.

Safe travels - your VA neighbors

Hope you guys are home by now since you had your Embassy appointment the same time Scott & Alia did. Small world!

Can't wait to see how the rest of your trip went and hopefully how life as a family of 3 is going.
